It’s Friday; I’m in Love #64

Firstly, I would like to say thanks for the feedback on both posts this week. All the comments I received made me feel loads better about everything–so thanks.

Life was pretty adult this week, with a trip to the dentist and paying for it myself and making the drive home because Dan started to fall asleep (defeating the purpose of asking him to drive me to my appointment in the first place). I’ve also been trying to get some work done on various projects. I’ve got my zine half assembled, and then I hope to find a few pieces to put together the next issue of Small Parts, which should go much quicker than OGBC.

I’ve also started my NaNoWriMo prep, and of course as soon as I came up for the topic for my novel, I wanted to start on it right away. I’ve been accidentally writing bits and pieces in my head as I fall asleep, so I’ve been trying to remember them and write them down for when I can get to work. I’m feeling very confident about NaNoWriMo this year, so I’m pretty stoked to begin.

Put up some lights + the drapery and staked in the ghosts. Still a little wimpy, but good enough! My little lawn ghosties #vscocam
What a crazy week it’s been. The bathroom has been in a bit of disarray while the bathtub has been installed and the walls have been tiled, but I’m confident it’s going to look wonderful when it’s done. I haven’t been a ton of help with that, to be honest, but I did put some effort into finishing up the Halloween decorations. Parts of it were a struggle–the original porch light was nonstandard so the outlet adapter didn’t work until we replaced the light, then we didn’t have the right extension cord for the ghosts–but nothing Dan and I couldn’t handle. We also picked up a blacklight for the porch light, which adds a fun little touch. The funniest part is that I don’t think I’ll decorate as much for Christmas, but I will at least put up lights and a wreath for the door. Other than that, I think the snow (if we have any by then) will be enough to feel festive.
A train in this morning's fog #vscocamI made a(n unnecessary) pitstop on the way home from work. #books #bookstagram #vscocam
I also had the pleasure of spotting a train early in the morning before work one day, and while my phone didn’t load the camera fast enough to get the front of the train, I did still get a nice photo of it. The conductor even waved to me as he went by, which was a fantastic experience. The same day (it was a good day), I stopped at the bookstore after work and treated myself. I was originally looking for a copy of My True Love Gave to Me, but I couldn’t find it, and I probably won’t read it until the holidays anyway, so for now I’m content with what I picked up.

Ohhh yeahhh, and I picked out my wedding dress. It was unexpected–we had only planned to look–and I do want to find some way to write a blog post about it, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

MaximumRocknRollHalloween decorations

Good week, good week all around. I got to come home Wednesday afternoon to a thick package full of MaximumRocknRoll back issues that I had ordered about a week and a half ago. I’d never read it before, but their special on six issues for $16 was too good not to take the risk, and so far I’m very pleased with what I’ve got. The first thing I read (of course) was an interview with Kathleen Hanna, which was fascinating. The other issues I picked based on locations in the descriptions (mostly centering around Massachusetts, preferably western, and New Hampshire), but I haven’t read any of those yet. I’m feeling pretty positive about them, though.

Then last night I worked on decorating the house for Halloween. It turned out that I didn’t have enough cobwebs for the hedges, but I already planned on going to pick up more decorations tonight after getting my paycheck, so I’ll just get another package of those, too. I’m already so happy with how the decorations are turning out, though. Dan tried to suggest that it was too early to decorate, so I pointed out that there are people who put up Christmas decorations before it’s even Thanksgiving. I think a few weeks before Halloween is perfectly reasonable.

I frickin' love bees, you guys. #vscocamLet's look at this photo and pretend my kitchen is cute for a little while. #vscocam

I didn’t necessarily “accomplish” much this week, but at the same time, I’m very content with it. I took a bike ride last weekend and spent a couple of hours in the park, reading zines and listening to RVIVR on my iPod. It was relaxing and it made me feel like I actually did something productive. This weekend we’re planning on going apple picking and grabbing some things at Target, and in between those trips I’ll be attacking my eyeballs with Gilmore Girls, like I’m sure so many others are now that it’s on Netflix.

But first, I’m making pizza dough! I finally pulled out my mixer for the first time since moving into the house, and it made me so happy; it just felt right. The only reason it was still in the box was because there’s not enough space between the counter and the cupboard to keep it out all the time, but there was just no way I was going to do the pizza dough by hand. Full disclosure: I’m just too lazy.

WHO'S JEALOUS??Met my idol tonight. I puked hearts everywhere.

Oh. Hey. How was your week? My week was pretty awesome. I read. I went to work. I did some knitting. Oh, yeah–and I MET RAINBOW ROWELL. YEAH. I DID THAT. It was pretty amazing. It kind of guided me through the whole week, the wonderful memory of listening to her talk and getting a picture and everything. She was so funny to listen to, and I feel like she’s someone who would be so fun to just have a conversation with, one on one. She’s pretty wonderful. The only problem now is that my mom refuses to borrow my copy of Landline to read it because it’s been signed, so I might have to buy her a copy like I did with The Fault in Our Stars, since she wouldn’t borrow that one either.

Started my first pair of socks today.Caveworld by Adam Gnade

The rest is true, too, though–I did start knitting my first pair of socks, which are going slowly but only because I haven’t been working on them. I’ve also been working on reading the library books I have left, finishing The Diviners last night and then starting Ready Player One. I kind of can’t wait to finish Ready Player One since my copy of Caveworld arrived this week and I’m dying to read it. The cover alone is fantastic, but I also really enjoy Adam Gnade’s writing, so I’m pretty pumped to read a novel of his.

And, of course, I’ve been passing the Wonderlust submissions call around the internet. I’ve gotten a lot of good response; now I’m just waiting for some pieces to come in. I’m really impatient about it because I’m so excited to put it together, but since I don’t plan to put it out until December anyway, I should probably learn to calm my socks.

It's the most wonderful time of the year.Charlie + library books.

What a lovely week it’s been. I’ve gotten plenty accomplished–despite the fact that the graphics card in my laptop died, and I’m now using Dan’s–working on two zines and reading and planning out my next knitting projects. The only thing I slacked on was my workouts and eating. I ate pretty poorly compared to last week, but oh well. I did go for a short run with Lexi on Wednesday, and while she’s a rather atrocious runner, with her head whipping back and forth trying to smell everything, it was still pretty enjoyable. I’ve even gotten an email about Wonderlust! No solid submissions yet, but lots of people planning on sending something. Basically, it’s been an overall wonderful week. There were a few days when I still suddenly felt down for no discernible reason, but for now I’m good, and all I can hope is this continues.

Cheese fries, bro.My @blogilates fit journal is HEEERE!!! #vscocam

JUST LOOK AT THIS AWESOME WEEK I’VE HAD. I had cheese fries–and, I mean, that alone set me up for a good few days–got TWO exciting packages, and worked on my goal of spending time outside by eating lunch and reading the NovelTea pick for this month out in my rocking chair. It’s nothing but good vibes around here right now. I did slack on zine work, which was a bit disappointing after getting at least half of it written last week, but I’m thinking all these good feelings are going to help me feel motivated again. Plus I have a couple ideas for the title of my lit zine, so maybe hopefully I’ll be able to announce that at the end of the month? Maybe.

Now I’m considering doing some “big girl” blog work this weekend (registering a domain and maybe even getting some web hosting if I can find an option/price I like) and looking forward to my days off. I don’t have any major plans, but I feel like I’m going to get so much done.

Lunch on the porch with the #novelteabookclub pick for this month. #vscocam!!!

It’s Friday; I’m in Love #57

Here comes a storm in the form of a girl.I WILL get this zine written. I must.

For some reason, even though I had Monday off from work, this week felt almost unbearably long. I was so thankful it was Friday when I woke up this morning. Still, when I wasn’t at work, the week was great for the most part. Last night, Dan and I went to the parade on Main Street, which announced the beginning of the county fair. I’m not sure if we’re going tonight or tomorrow, but I’m itching to see all the animals and agricultural displays–not to mention chow down on junk food. (Fried Snickers, here I come!)

I’ve also been working super duper hard on my new zine, just like I’d planned, and I’m maybe a third of the way done so far. I try to write about 700-1000 words a day for it, and for the most part I’ve stayed on track. I’m just hoping I don’t lose all the motivation and inspiration I’ve been feeling lately. The nice thing is that it’s now the weekend, which means I can stay up late working if I want to, which, let’s be real, I always want to stay up late to work; I’m more creatively productive that way.

It’s Friday; I’m in Love #56

I found these while doing a garden check and I don't know how it happened! I basically gave up on the radishes before I even did my second planting, but these came out beautifully!New dress from yesterday's shopping trip.
What a relatively good week I’ve had! Monday and Tuesday were nothing to write home about, but Wednesday onward has been lovely. I got to go to the mall for the first time in months Wednesday afternoon, and I picked up some new clothes (like that dress!) that make me feel super cute. I stumbled upon some beautiful radishes just sitting in my garden after I had given up on them, like I mentioned on Monday. And today I powered through a busy day at work, staying distracted in the hope that the day would go by quickly. It wasn’t necessarily as quick as I’d hoped, but it was better than a slow day. Aside from a slight dip in mood this afternoon, I’m feeling really good this week. I’m trying to pick through some writing I’ve done over the past few months so I can start putting together a new issue of One-Girl Bicycle Club, plus thinking about starting lit zine–I just haven’t thought of a damn title for it yet.

For now, though, I’m sitting in the living room, waiting for Dan to get home, and watching Parenthood on Netflix and birds on the feeder.

It’s Friday; I’m in Love #55

This creepy awesome Ouija board was just sitting in our attic. It was the only thing in there.First up for #boutofbooks.
There’s not much to report on this week; I’ve spent most of my free time either reading or sleeping in my attempt at Bout of Books. I’m kind of behind on my goal right now, but I’m hoping the weekend will give me a chance to catch up a bit. I guess my potentially fatal mistake was to include a Stephen King book, right? But it was a fantastic read, so I’m not upset about it.

Also, on the creepy news front, Dan spent the weekend working in our attics (we have two; it’s weird) to add ventilation before getting the house insulated. Saturday was spent listening to the dog bark at all the noises coming from upstairs while Dan banged around and put a vent in the attic of the addition, along with a big hole in the bedroom wall. Sunday went a little smoother, with the dog being quieter than the day before and Dan having a better clue what he was doing. I decided to spend the day in bed lounging around, so I watched him climb up into the original attic from the hallway. Not five minutes later, his legs poked out and he climbed back down…with a giant Ouija board in his hands. It was the only thing in the attic. We don’t know whose it was or where it came from. It was just there. Sadly, there was no planchette to go with it. But I’m thinking about hanging it up in the living room as decoration (to which my dad responded, “Are you sure that’s a good idea?”).
